Poetic crafts an updated website and branding refresh for Houston’s William David Homes, setting the stage for their expanding stake in the city’s custom homebuilding arena.
As an award-winning home builder expanding within the Houston market, William David Homes recognized the need for a more refined brand identity and a digital platform capable of clearly communicating its evolving offerings.
Our Approach
Houston-based digital product agency, Poetic, partnered with William David Homes to refresh its brand, and redesign its digital presence through a fully custom website experience. The project was driven by several key objectives: modernize the brand while preserving its established identity, create a clearer distinction between the company’s Custom Homes and Select Homes offerings, and build a scalable website platform capable of supporting long-term growth. Additionally, the client required improved content management capabilities, ongoing support, and a technical integration that would allow housing data to be distributed more efficiently to partners and sellers.
Poetic approached the engagement as a holistic brand and digital initiative. Beginning with collaborative discovery sessions and stakeholder workshops, the Poetic team worked closely with William David Homes leadership to define audience segments, brand positioning, and digital priorities. The outcome was a refined visual identity paired with a sophisticated, responsive website built using Webflow.
The finished platform provides a modern digital foundation that highlights the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define William David Homes while delivering the flexibility and scalability needed to support continued growth.

About the Client
William David Homes is a custom home builder serving the greater Houston, Texas area. Founded in 2012 by owner David Sanders, the company has developed a strong reputation for craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and exceptional client service within the luxury residential market.
The company offers two primary building pathways.
- Custom Homes are fully bespoke residences designed and constructed around each homeowner’s specific vision and lifestyle needs. These projects allow clients to collaborate closely with the builder and design teams to create a home tailored to their detailed preferences.
- Select Homes represent the company’s semi-custom offering. These homes begin with curated floor plans but allow buyers to make meaningful adjustments and design selections. This approach provides flexibility while offering a more streamlined process and a lower entry point than fully custom builds.
This dual approach allows William David Homes to serve a diverse range of clients, and their innovations has been widely recognized for its quality and craftsmanship, earning the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Homebuilder of the Year award in both 2023 and 2024.
As the Houston metropolitan area continues to experience rapid growth and expansion, William David Homes has seen increasing demand across both product lines. To support this growth, the company identified the need to strengthen both its brand identity and digital platform.
The Challenges
When William David Homes engaged Poetic, the company faced several strategic and operational challenges related to its brand and website.
A Brand That Needed Refinement
While the existing brand identity was recognizable within the Houston market, leadership felt that it had begun to feel visually stagnant. The brand no longer fully reflected the level of sophistication and quality that the company’s homes represented.
The goal was not to completely reinvent the brand but to refine and elevate it, introducing new visual energy while preserving the core identity that clients already associated with William David Homes.
A Website That Lacked Clarity
The company’s existing website also presented significant challenges. Leadership felt the site was not effectively driving traffic or generating meaningful leads. More importantly, it did not successfully communicate the full range of services and capabilities that William David Homes offered.
Visitors often struggled to understand the difference between Custom Homes and Select Homes, as well as the level of customization available within each offering. As the Select Homes program continues to expand, this lack of clarity creates confusion for prospective buyers.
Limited Flexibility and Platform Constraints
Operational limitations behind the scenes further complicated the situation. The existing website was hosted and maintained by an external developer who was difficult to reach and slow to respond. This created frustration for the client and limited their ability to quickly update content related to homes, communities, pricing, and availability - a necessary component in real estate.
Additionally, William David Homes wanted to implement an integration with Pipsy, a platform that distributes housing information through an XML feed to listing services and partners. Without a flexible content management system and reliable development support, implementing this functionality was not feasible on the existing platform.
These challenges highlighted the need for a modern website built on a scalable system that could grow alongside the company’s expanding operations.

Poetic’s Strategy
Poetic approached the project as both a brand refresh and a digital transformation initiative. The objective was to align William David Homes’ visual identity and digital experience with the craftsmanship and sophistication that define the company’s work.
Discovery and Strategic Alignment
The project began with a collaborative discovery phase designed to align on goals, audiences, and brand positioning. Through workshops and stakeholder discussions with William David Homes leadership, Poetic worked to better understand the company’s clients and market position. Two primary audience segments emerged. The first group consisted of younger professionals and growing families seeking semi-custom Select Homes, typically with budgets between one and two million dollars. The second group included empty nesters and established homeowners pursuing fully custom luxury homes, often ranging from 1.5 up to four million dollars. Understanding these audiences helped inform both the brand refresh and the website’s information architecture.
Competitive Analysis
Poetic also conducted a competitive review of other home builders operating within the Houston market. This analysis helped identify opportunities to strengthen William David Homes’ digital presence through clearer navigation, stronger storytelling around craftsmanship, and more effective presentation of curated home plans and communities. These insights guided both the visual direction of the brand refresh and the structure of the new website.
Brand Refresh
The brand refresh focused on elevating the visual identity while maintaining the recognizable elements that had defined the William David Homes brand. The company’s black-and-white color palette remained central to the brand system. Rather than introducing an entirely new palette, Poetic enhanced the existing foundation by introducing new visual textures and refined design elements.
Introducing a Signature Accent
To provide contrast and visual distinction, Poetic introduced a rich ruby red accent color. This addition allowed the brand to maintain its classic aesthetic while incorporating a distinctive element that draws attention to key content across digital platforms.
Texture and Visual Depth
Because the client wanted to remain close to their existing color palette, Poetic incorporated layered textures and subtle graphic treatments to create visual depth. These elements help communicate a sense of luxury and craftsmanship without relying on an expanded color system. Updated typography and logo refinements completed the refreshed brand toolkit, creating a more flexible and cohesive identity that could be applied consistently across digital experiences.

Website Design and Development
Following the brand refresh, Poetic began the process of designing and building a fully custom website experience.
Information Architecture and Sitemap
The project began with the creation of a streamlined sitemap focused on clarity and usability. The initial structure prioritized approximately ten key pages, ensuring visitors could easily navigate the site while understanding the company’s primary offerings. A major focus of the structure was clearly distinguishing between Custom Homes and Select Homes so that visitors could quickly determine which pathway aligned with their needs.
Collaborative Design Process
The design phase was completed in Figma through an iterative process that moved from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity visual designs. This collaborative approach allowed William David Homes stakeholders to review concepts and provide feedback throughout the design process, ensuring the final experience aligned closely with their vision. The final design emphasizes high-quality photography, clean typography, and refined use of contrast and texture to reflect the craftsmanship of the homes themselves.
Development in Webflow
Once designs were finalized, the website was developed using Webflow. The platform provided the flexibility required to build a completely custom website while offering powerful content management capabilities. Webflow allows the William David Homes team to update content without requiring ongoing developer assistance, ensuring the site can remain current as the company continues to grow.
CMS Architecture and Scalability
Poetic implemented a structured CMS architecture using Webflow collections. This system allows the team to easily add and update homes, communities, and project galleries. The CMS structure ensures that the website can scale naturally as William David Homes continues expanding its portfolio.
Pipsy Integration
To meet the client’s operational needs, Poetic also developed a custom integration with the Pipsy platform. Through this integration, the Webflow CMS connects to Pipsy’s XML feed, allowing property data such as pricing, availability, and floor plans to be automatically distributed to partner platforms and sellers. This system ensures external partners always have accurate, up-to-date information about William David Homes’ properties.
